Win for heritage protection!

In August, I moved the motion that will protect inter-war heritage buildings with a Code Amendment, which was adopted by the Minister for Planning on 25 September.

It will protect 20 dwellings as Local Heritage Places and apply the Historic Area Overlay in part of Heathpool to protect its special character. Within the Historic Area Overlay, 12 of the properties are proposed to be identified as Representative Buildings.

The protection will also apply to historic buildings in College Park, Hackney, Marden, Marryatville, Maylands, St Peters, Royston Park and Joslin.

It was a long journey, with the proposal going back and forth between Council and the State Government since 2021. It is well aligned with Council’s Built Heritage Strategy 2022-2027 which I supported in 2022.
